Seeing this flatboard kalimba online, I figured maybe the animal was supposed to look like a koi. But in person, it’s more obvious that it must be a whale, and there’s also a jellyfish near it to help provide a clue as to it likely being a saltwater animal.

The kalimba is stunning. It’s amazing how seamlessly the resin is attached to the very smoothly finished wood. Closing my eyes, I can’t really tell when my finger glides over one surface or the other.

It’s a beautiful instrument and plays well (even the outermost tines),

It’s probably really hard to do resin and not get anything in it or have it be totally perfect. And that’s definitely not a reason to not get this instrument.

I got the REGIS Kalimba 17 Keys Thumb Piano for my teenage daughter and she has been playing it almost non-stop. It came nicely packaged and includes a song book, tune hammer, flannelette bag and cleaning fabric. It’s a sturdy little thing that makes a very pleasant sound. My daughter has been practicing and playing her favorite songs with its easy-to-use keys. It’s a fun way to improvise or play something from ear.
